Recycling, A Land Full of Opportunity

In a perfect world, the supply of recycled container glass would grow at a steady 10% every year to meet the NAPP goals for the year 2000. Recycling operators would sell all their container glass to Consumers Glass as part of a closed loop process. This would mean another 1.50 million tonnes would be recycled from 1996 through 2000!

Consumers Glass purchases over this period would result in $100 million in revenue to the Canadian recycling community!

However, Consumers Glass is not the only end market for recycled container glass. In the last few years, other end markets have developed.

These markets pay less for recycled container glass, but they provide an alternative to recycling programs which do not focus on high value end markets. These markets exist to take container glass which is either too distant from a container glass furnace or to utilize material when operators are unable to optimize the quality of the glass to meet Consumers Glass standards.

Combined, all of the end markets indicate a significant opportunity for growth.
