Rosen Continental Inc. is a name that has a strong history in glass recycling and processing in Ontario. This company is now part of a much larger corporate entity, Continental Recycling, Inc., that spans four countries over two continents. John Morrison, General Manager, is focusing his attention today on the future.
Continental intends to become the leading company in recycling, and the environment industry, through a strategy focusing on selected niche markets. Between the consolidated facilities, it currently processes 863,600 tonnes annually of post-consumer and post-industrial cullet. Continental's feedstock consists of container glass and flat glass. As part of this organization Rosen Continental will be able to acquire innovative techniques and share them with the local market, helping to further improve Ontario recycling operations.
Rosen Continental understands that technological innovation will drive economic growth, and accordingly, Rosen Continental has acquired computerized process systems for the new plant.
Last year, the British affiliate became the first ISO 9002 certified glass processor in the world. Rosen Continental is preparing to follow suit which will make it the first glass processor and recycler certified in North America.
What other benefits can recycling operators and program managers expect? By delivering all their glass to one location, recyclers will be able to reduce costs by using fewer roll-off containers. Rosen Continental is also working on reducing costs by investigating backhaul opportunities for recyclers coming from the east, whereas suppliers from the west save on the shorter transportation routes.
Since January, Rosen Continental has been testing each of its loads going to Consumers Glass, verifying the quality of furnace ready glass. As a result of this simple ongoing testing program, quality has improved.
Reducing off spec material at the source enables cost savings for all stakeholders in the recycling system.
Sharing quality management approaches will not only help recycling operators generate a better raw material, some recyclers may be able to reduce costs. Improvements in quality will also enable Consumers Glass to recycle even more container glass..
Everybody wins.
Rosen Continental is equiped to process all the recycled glass Ontario can generate.
