ETL Environmental Technology Ltd.
"We're in the Solutions Business"

ETL brings a refreshing perspective to the container glass processing and recycling industry in Western Canada. While the last few years has been dominated with woes about waste, ETL focused on looking forward to make a more efficient connection between supply and demand. Glass furnaces have always had a larger appetite for cullet, (furnace ready recycled container glass) but the supply base, municipalities, have never been able to make the mental transition to supplier. Consumers Glass, as Canada's only manufacturer of quality glass containers, needed to have a consistent, reliable supply of cullet. With such diverse needs and abilities, processors become important intermediaries for both sides.

Meet or exceed expectations

Gerry Wiebe, ETL's President, told Glass Works that he saw the opportunity for his company to re-structure themselves to be one of Canada's top recycled glass processors. Part of the successful transition involved embracing a mindset to manufacture a glass product that would consistently meet or exceed the expectations of Consumers Glass. Gerry also identified technological approaches from the mining industry, and adapted them to glass processing. This combination proved to be very successful as Consumers Glass responded to ETL's efforts. The result is a five-year supply agreement, effective December 1, 1998 through November 30, 2004. ETL is now the exclusive supplier to Consumers Glass for all recycled glass from the Greater Vancouver Regional District and Vancouver Island areas of British Columbia for that period.

Quality driven approach

ETL's quality driven approach results in minimal residue from multi-material and depot programmes. Glass Works finds the consistent theme for success in recycling and processing operations is the dogged adherence to quality. ETL is yet another good example that shows that success follows in the footsteps of a quality driven company.

ETL's quality approach is leading to results.
